FAQ
How Our Fabric Shop Works
Welcome to Bombyx Fabryx, where we believe in making your fabric shopping experience as smooth and intuitive as possible. We understand that finding the perfect fabric for your sewing projects can be tricky, which is why we’ve created a system to help you choose the right fabric for every project.
Here’s how our fabric details work:
Stretch Percentage
The stretch percentage of our fabrics indicates how much the fabric stretches both horizontally (across the width) and vertically (along the length). This is an important measurement to consider when selecting fabrics for your patterns, as it ensures that the material will behave in the way you expect during sewing and wearing.
Horizontal Stretch: How much the fabric stretches across the width.
Vertical Stretch: How much the fabric stretches along the length.
Use the stretch percentage listed for each fabric to compare it with the stretch requirements of your pattern. Whether you’re working with knits, spandex, or any other stretchy fabric, this measurement helps you choose a fabric that will provide the right fit, comfort, and movement for your project.
Softness Scale (1 to 5)
Comfort is key when choosing fabric for your sewing projects, and our softness scale is here to help. We’ve rated all of our fabrics on a scale from 1 to 5, based on their softness, so you can find the perfect material for every occasion.
1 (Least Soft): Fabrics that have a rougher texture or are more structured. Great for projects like outerwear or accessories.
5 (Most Soft): Fabrics that are incredibly soft and smooth, perfect for garments like dresses, t-shirts, or loungewear.
The softness rating will help you pick the ideal fabric that feels comfortable against the skin or provides the right structure for your sewing pattern.
Sheerness Scale (1 to 5)
The sheerness scale measures how much light passes through the fabric, especially when stretched in the lightest colorway (like white or off-white). This is particularly useful for knowing how much coverage a fabric will provide once it’s sewn into your project.
1 (Not Sheer): Solid fabrics with no transparency, offering full coverage.
5 (Very Sheer): Transparent fabrics, similar to mesh or chiffon, which offer a lot of visibility and airiness.
If you’re making a dress, top, or skirt, the sheerness rating will help you determine whether you’ll need a lining, whether the fabric is appropriate for the design you have in mind, and how much opacity it will have.
